The Weeknd Continues To Boycott Grammys In Spite Of Changes To Nomination Process

The Grammys may be changing its protocol surrounding nominations, but The Weeknd is still firm in his boycott!

As you may recall, The Weeknd (real name Abel Tesfaye) vowed to boycott the Grammy Awards after feeling snubbed by the Awards committee. This sentiment resulted from The Weeknd‘s After Hours album not receiving any nominations for the 2021 Grammy Awards. He called out the awards show in November.

Specifically, The Weeknd‘s gripe stemmed from the Grammys’ use of secret committees. These secret committees had the job of reviewing nominations and essentially deeming who was eligible for nomination that year. This was made clear in a statement the “Save Your Tears” singer gave following the 2021 Grammys nominations:

“Because of the secret committees, I will no longer allow my label to submit my music to the Grammys.”

However, the Grammys Awards recently announced that it is implementing new changes to its processes, and this includes the elimination of secret committees. As a result, nominations will be determined by a majority vote of Academy members, rather than mysterious committees that exist behind-the-scenes. It is presumed that recent backlash from artists like The Weeknd, Kanye West, and Jay-Z helped bring about this change, as the secret committees had been relied on since 1989.

Earlier today (May 3rd), The Weeknd provided a statement to the New York Times that acknowledged the Grammys’ changes–and doubled-down on his boycott! He stated:

“Even though I won’t be submitting my music, the Grammys’ recent admission of corruption will hopefully be a positive move for the future of this plagued award and give the artist community the respect it deserves with a transparent voting process.”

The Weeknd appears to be glad about the changes the Grammys are making to their protocol, but he will still refrain from supporting it by not submitting his music for consideration.

Adrienne Bailon Doesn’t See An Issue W/ Porsha Williams’ Engagement To ‘RHOA’ Co-Star’s Estranged Husband: Porsha & Falynn Aren’t Friends

RHOA star Porsha Williams and her recent engagement news have set the internet ablaze. Dozens of fans are scratching their heads trying to make heads or tails of this salacious situation. If by chance you haven’t heard the tea, here’s a brief recap. Porsha Williams is now engaged to castmate Falynn Guobadia’s estranged husband Simon Guobadia. Falynn Guobadia previously alleged she was brought on RHOA, by way of Porsha Williams, to be a friend of the show for season 13.

The ladies of The Real discussed the controversy on their daytime talk show. As everyone weighed in on the topic, Adrienne Bailon didn’t appear to see an issue with the particulars surrounding the engagement.

Adrienne Bailon said:

“This is my take on the whole situation: if Falynn doesn’t have a problem with it, why should we? If Falynn has moved on, his ex-wife has moved on, and she’s doing her thing, then let’s move on.”

The panel then debated about whether there’s an actual friendship between Porsha Williams and Falynn Guobadia to determine if ‘girl code’ had been broken.

Actress, co-host and star of RHOBH Garcelle Beauvais, displayed reluctance in her acceptance of Porsha’s relationship with Simon Guobadia, implying there may be some inauthenticity for the sake of a story line.

“A month you guys, a month. First of all, he’s recently divorced, and there hasn’t even been enough time to reflect to see what did I do wrong, what did she do wrong, and now all of a sudden we’re engaged. Sounds to me like it’s a story line for next season.”

In the segment, Loni Love later poses the question to Adrienne Bailon:

“Let’s be real though, if your coworker married Israel [Adrienne Bailon’s husband] in a month, I mean c’mon.”

Adrienne Bailon retorted:

“Here’s the difference, Porsha Williams said her and Falynn are not friends. Y’all are my friends and I’ve lived life with you people. There’s a difference. They might have shot some scenes together, but that doesn’t mean they’re friends.”

Stacey Abrams’ Recent Novel ‘While Justice Sleeps’ Will Be Adapted Into TV Series

If you haven’t had the chance to pick up Stacey AbramsWhile Justice Sleeps yet, don’t worry–because it’ll be gracing televisions soon!

Although While Justice Sleeps was made available just yesterday (May 11th), there are already plans for Working Title Television to adapt the novel into a television series. Working Title Television is part of NBCUniversal International Studios, and Stacey Abrams will executively produce the project with Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner.

While the Georgia politician may be more well-known for tackling voter suppression, she also has quite the experience as an author! It turns out that While Justice Sleeps is actually Stacey Abrams‘ ninth fiction novel, but her earlier works were written under her pen name Selena Montgomery rather than her government name. In an interview that aired yesterday (May 11th), Abrams explained her rationale for penning her earlier novels under an alias. Speaking with Gayle King on CBS This Morning, Abrams claimed:

“The only reason my name wasn’t on Selena Montgomery’s novels is I was writing tax articles and social policy treatises at the same time I began publishing in fiction and it was much easier to keep them separate. It was less about hiding that I wrote romance and being more concerned about romance readers not wanting to read romance by a tax wonk.”

In addition to nine fictional novels as Selena Montgomery, Stacey Abrams also authored two political texts: Lead from the Outside: How to Build Your Future and Make Real Change and Our Time Is Now: Power, Purpose, and the Fight for a Fair America. These nonfictional works were released using Abrams‘ real name.

It seems like the Georgia politician is becoming more comfortable putting her real name on her creative works, and there appear to be great benefits following this decision! The details on the TV adaptation are still forthcoming, but it looks like it’s in the works!
