Much needed relief is coming in to help the victims of the devastating explosion that happened on August 4 in Lebanon’s capital of Beirut. Famed singer, The Weeknd has added a donation of $300,000 to Global Aid for Lebanon to assist victims of the eruption.
The Weeknd’s manager, Wassim “Sal” Slaiby, made the announcement on his Instagram page, captioning a photo of the pair:
I am so honored and humbled to work with artist’s who have such deep care for the world and right now for our brothers & sisters of Lebanon who are in pain and need our collective help. I want to thank my brother @theweeknd for his generous and class act of donating $300,000 to the Global Aid for Lebanon campaign.
Also, I want to give a special thank you to Michael Rapino @michaelrapino and my Live Nation family for $50,000 donation. Give what you can and let’s repost so the world can come together to help Lebanon from this this devastating tragedy. #GlobalAidForLebanon @glblctzn @lebaneseredcross @wfpusa @wfp_mena @ccclebanon
Sal Slaiby and his wife Rima Fakih, who were both born in Lebanon also donated to the fund, to the tune of $250,000.
The singer recently made large donations totaling $500,000 to several charity groups for the Black Lives Matter movement. He posted screenshots of his donations to social media.
Born Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, The Weeknd’s donation adds to his charitable donations totaling $2.15 million in just two months. This includes his latest fund raising efforts via hosting a livestream virtual TikTok concert that drew in over 2 million views, raising $350k for Equal Justice Initiative.
We’ll continue to keep the victims and residents of Beirut in our prayers. Sadly, over 200 lives were lost and an insurmountable amount of destruction was the outcome.
