R&B singer Trey Songz is moving many to tears with his new song “2020 Riots: How Many Times,” which addresses the senseless killings of Black people by law enforcement throughout America.

On the song that evokes various emotions he sings, “How many mothers have to cry, how many brothers gotta die, how many more times, how many more times, how many more marches, how many more signs, how many more lives, how many more times.”

A visual for the new single shows moments from protests in memoriam of George Floyd, images of other black men and women gunned down police, and the powerful moment in which Floyd’s daughter says. “Daddy changed the world.”

Impacted by the imagery and words, people on social poured out their thought and feelings about the song.

“Felt this deep in my soul 😭♥️”

“Damn this made me cry..,” wrote another.

“instant tears 😭 this song is so powerful”

“Powerful song Powerful video”

“I cried watching this video because I know full well what’s going on but your words with the video 😭😭😭😭😭 thank you @treysongz”

The record is a departure from Songz’s usual hits about steamy trysts with women and making the most of an opportunity to have a good time.

Far from an abandonment of his core audience, the singer instead is using his vocals to show his solidarity with his community.

Since returning from his social media hiatus, the new father to 1-year-old son Noah has shown more of himself and less of the sex symbol facade women had grown to love and lust after. Often posting photos of himself and Noah, the 35-year-old now has fans swooning over his seemingly matured demeanor.

“I ain’t gon lie…it scares the hell outta me to be this vulnerable and share my world in this way,” he wrote on post showing precious moments between hImself and his son and family members. “The way we tear each other down worries me, but f–k it, because I’m guilty of it too if we really being honest.”
